Resumen de Las fiebres y la plaga en la Barcelona de los años 80 del siglo XVIII

Durante la etapa postrera de la Pequeña Edad de Hielo, la Península Ibérica se vio sumida a finales del siglo XVIII en un periodo de fuerte irregularidad climática, conocido como Oscilación Maldá. La inestabilidad del clima dio lugar a una sucesión de sequías, tormentas, olas de frío y de calor que, entre otros, junto con el crecimiento de la población, la falta de adecuadas medidas de higiene y el impacto directo e indirecto de las actividades productivas humanas, generaron, en su conjunto, un marco propicio para el arraigo de enfermedades y plagas que repercutieron sobre la vida cotidiana de quienes las padecieron. En este artículo nos centraremos en el análisis de las que convergieron en la Barcelona de los años 80 del siglo XVIII para comprender el impacto que ocasionaron y las reacciones que se produjeron entre médicos y autoridades para intentar paliar las consecuencias de estos episodios.

During the last stage of the Little Ice Age, the Iberian Peninsula was plunged at the end of the 18th century into a period of strong climatic irregularity, known as the Maldá Oscillation. The instability of the climate gave rise to a succession of droughts, storms, cold and heat waves which, together with population growth, the lack of adequate hygiene measures and the direct and indirect impact of human productive activities, all together generated a favourable framework for the establishment of diseases and plagues that had an impact on the daily lives of those who suffered from them. In this article we will focus on the analysis of those that occurred in Barcelona in the eighties of the 18th Century, in order to understand the impact that they caused and the reactions that took place in the medical profession and among the authorities in an attempt to mitigate the consequences of these episodes.
