Iglesia y monasterio mozárabes de Santa María de Melque, San Martín de Montalbán, Toledo. Síntesis de un debate científico

    La iglesia de Santa María de Melque, San Martín de Montalbán, Toledo, se sitúa en la submeseta sur, entre el rio Tajo y las estribaciones de los Montes de Toledo. Las excavaciones arqueológicas han descubierto tres recintos que la rodean y que formaban, con la iglesia, un monasterio. Dato el inicio de este monasterio a mediados del s. VIII. La iglesia ha sido objeto de la investigación y la polémica científica acerca de su datación y adscripción cultural. Primero me refiero a su historiografía y a continuación describiré las características de los elementos que conforman monasterio e iglesia, terminando con un análisis del ambiente técnico en que a mi parecer se produjeron.

    The church of Santa María de Melque -San Martín de Montalbán, Toledo- is located in the southern sub Meseta, between the Tagus river and the foothills of Montes de Toledo. The archaeological excavations have discovered three enclosures that surround it and becomes, with the church, a monastery. Author assigns a date for the beginning of this monastery in the middle of the 8th century. The church has been the subject of research and scientific controversy, aswell as its datation and cultural abscription. This paper refers first to his historiography and then describes the characteristics of the elements that make up the monastery and church, ending with an analysis of the technical environment in which author believes they were produced
