    La Revolución de septiembre de 1868 fue la última de las revoluciones liberales del siglo XIX y supuso la expulsión de España de la reina Isabel II. El inicio de La Gloriosa, como así es conocida, tuvo lugar el día 18 de septiembre en Cádiz, y lentamente fue extendiéndose por la geografía española hasta el 28 del mismo mes, cuando tuvo lugar la batalla del Puente de Alcolea, en la que las tropas isabelinas fueron derrotadas por los militares sublevados. Desde el día siguiente de la batalla, el alzamiento se propagó rápidamente por el resto de España, ese día 29 se realizó el pronunciamiento en Madrid, al igual que en Salamanca y Ciudad Rodrigo. En Fuenteguinaldo no tuvo lugar hasta el día 1 de octubre, pero fue una de las primeras localidades salmantinas donde se eligió un Ayuntamiento mediante una de las reivindicaciones revolucionarias, el sufragio universal.

    The Revolution of September 1868 was the last of the nineteenth-century liberal revolutions and entailed the expulsion of Spain from Queen Elizabeth II. The beginning of La Gloriosa, as it is known, took place on September 18 in Cádiz, and slowly spread throughout the Spanish geography until the 28th of the same month, when the battle of the Puente de Alcolea took place, in which the Elizabethan troops were defeated by the rebellious military. From the day after the battle, the uprising spread rapidly throughout the rest of Spain, on the 29th the pronouncement was made in Madrid, as in Salamanca and Ciudad Rodrigo. In Fuenteguinaldo it did not take place until October 1, but it was one of the first localities in Salamanca where a City Council was elected through one of the revolutionary demands, universal suffrage.
