    A realização de eventos esportivos é um fato comum na nossa sociedade. Eles ocorrem com o objetivo de competição e lazer, e ao mesmo tempo geram um fluxo turístico no local do evento. Este artigo tem como objetivo analisar a realização destes eventos esportivos em cidades históricas do estado de Minas Gerais e a participação dos atletas como turistas durante a realização da competição. Foram pesquisados quatro eventos da modalidade de Handebol realizados em três cidades turísticas diferentes. Avaliado o impacto da realização do evento sobre os atletas e as cidades, bem como a comunidade e o seu envolvimento com o evento. Em termos gerais este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar o esporte um atrativo turístico e o impacto dos eventos esportivos nas cidades, nos atletas e na comunidade. No que diz respeito aos objetivos específicos, pretende analisar o turismo de eventos esportivos a partir de um segmento específico, a modalidade handebol e ainda caracterizar e identificar os atletas de eventos esportivos como turistas. O objetivo é identificar o perfil ou padrão de conduta dos atletas participantes. Com isto possibilitando aos atletas e participantes vivenciarem melhor as atratividades da cidade, embora o foco ou o motivo da viagem, seja a competição.

    Sporting events are common in our society. They occur with the objective of competition and leisure, as well as having an impact on the tourist flow where a particular event is held. The aim of this article is to examine the impact of sporting events in the tourist cities of the state of Minas Gerais, and the participation of the athletes as tourists during the competition. Four events in the sport of handball in three different tourist cities have been researched. The impact of the outcome of the events on athletes and the cities, as well as the communities and its involvement has been evaluated. In general terms, this research aims to analyze sport as a tourist attraction and the impact of sporting events on cities, athletes and the community. Specifically, this research examines tourism in relation to sporting events in the discipline of handball, and identifies the athletes of these sporting events as tourists. The objective is to define the profile or types of behavior of the participant athletes. With this, it is possible that athletes and participants of sporting events are in a position to appreciate the attractions of a city, although the focus or reason of the trip is that of a competition.
