    En el siglo XX, se dieron más cambios en la vida del ser humano que durante el millar de años del Imperio Romano o en el largo período de la Edad de Piedra. Estas mutaciones se debieron más a los descubrimientos de la ciencia y a los inventos de la tecnología que a las dos guerras mundiales, los totalitarismos, los genocidios y los etnocidios que conmociona-ron a la humanidad en esa centuria o a la Guerra Fría que dividió al mundo entre dos bloques industriales- militares incompatibles y opuestos, que se amenazaban con el triunfo de uno sobre la destrucción del otro. Los mayores cambios tecno científicos los trajeron las llamadas tecnologías de la información (TI), en las que Venezuela fue pionera América Latina con la instalación de computadores y la creación de carreras universitarias décadas antes que en el resto del continente. La Universidad Centroccidental Lisandro Alvarado ha jugado un papel muy importante con la creación de carreras de vanguardia y centros investigación en TI, mucho antes que otras universidades en el país y en América Latina. Pero la crisis socioeconómica y política que ha venido sufriendo el país y la universidad venezolana en especial, ha detenido nuestro desarrollo, al punto que hasta amenaza a que la universidad nacional desparezca, y su futuro es aciago y ominoso. Vienen más cambios y así lo prefiguran las opiniones de los mejor calificados expertos del mundo. ¿Estamos preparados para enfrentarlos? En este artículo se analizan algunos de los aspectos más relevantes sobre los posibles y complejos escenarios que nos esperan para que reinventemos nuestras universidades antes que: el ¡futuro nos alcance!.

    In the 20th century, more changes took place in the life of the human being than during the thousand years of the Roman Empire or the long period of the Stone Age. These mutations were due more to the discoveries of science and the inventions of technology than to the two world wars, totalitarianism, genocide and ethnocide that shocked humanity in that century or to the Cold War that divided the world. between two incompatible and opposed military-industrial blocs, which threatened each other with the triumph of one over the destruction of the other. The greatest techno-scientific changes were brought by the so-called information technologies (IT), in which Venezuela was a pioneer in Latin America with the installation of computers and the creation of university degrees decades before the rest of the continent. The Lisandro Alvarado Centroccidental University has played a very important role with the creation of cutting-edge careers and IT research centers, long before other universities in the country and in Latin America. But the socioeconomic and political crisis that the country has been suffering and the Venezuelan university in particular, has stopped our development, to the point that it even threatens the disappearance of the national university, and its future is grim and ominous. More changes are coming and this is prefigured by the opinions of the best qualified experts in the world. Are we prepared to face them? This article analyzes some of the most relevant aspects of the possible and complex scenarios that await us so that we can reinvent our universities before: the future catches up with us!
