Por su parte, el doctor Sergio Zúñiga hace una reseña histórica muy interesante en su conferencia “Evolución de la cirugía en carcinoma papilar de tiroides”, donde describe las etapas de la cirugía de tiroides desde la primera tiroidectomía reportada en el año 1791, hasta el momento presente donde las cirugías de tiroides continúan en aumento, y donde aún existe discusión sobre la mejor opción quirúrgica para los pacientes de bajo riesgo.
