    Este capítulo hace un recorrido por los espacios reales e inventados en la adaptación del cuento «The Murders in the Rue Morgue» de Edgar Allan Poe por Vicente Barrantes y titulado «¿Quién es él?». En él se manifiesta la identidad española como un espacio textual, como una construcción simbólica y un proceso de interpretación cultural continuo donde Barcelona se descubre como un espacio de mediación semiótica que compone la actividad lingüística heterovalente. Barrantes emplea el espacio visual real como marco discursivo y narrativo de su adaptación, y no solo lo utiliza como un vehículo narrativo, sino que además transfiere al cuento las realidades culturales e históricas de sus experiencias más recientes.

    This essay walks around the real and invented spaces in the adaptation of the tale «The Murders in the Rue Morgue» by Edgar Allan Poe that Vicente Barrantes adapted with the title «¿Quién es él?». The author manifests in his lines the national identity as a textual space, as a symbolic construction and a process of continuous cultural interpretation where Barcelona discovers itself as a space of semiotic mediation that compounds the bilingual heterovalent activity. Barrantes composes in his adaption the real visual space as a discursive and narrative construction, and not just limited to its vehicular scope but as a conveyor of the historical and cultural realities of his most recent vital experiences.
