A través de las últimas décadas, se ha realizado un significativo progreso en solidificar la visibilidad de las críticas e innovadoras contribuciones de artistas latinoamericanos y latinxs a la historia del arte en los siglos XX y XXI. El Centro Internacional de las Artes de las Américas en el Museum of Fine Arts, Houston ha trabajado para alentar y fomentar nuevos estudios en estos pujantes campos a través de su enfoque basado en la investigación para la promoción del arte de ambos hemisferios. La plataforma digital Documents of Latin American and Latino Art de ICAA ha jugado un papel inconmensurable en el establecimiento y formulación de estas disciplinas a escala internacional. Habiendo celebrado recientemente 20 años, este texto reexamina las primeras etapas del proyecto y sus proyectos actuales y futuros. La clave de la discusión son las formas en que ICAA utiliza las tecnologías digitales para fomentar la expansión y la visibilidad de estos campos al hacer que los documentos de fuentes primarias sean accesibles al público.

Over the several decades, significant headway has been made in solidifying the visibility of the critical and innovative contributions of Latin American and Latinx artists have made to the history of art in the 20th and 21st centuries. The International Center for the Arts of the Americas at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, has worked to encourage and foster new scholarship in these burgeoning fields through its research-based approach to the promotion of art from both hemispheres. The ICAA’s cornerstone Documents of Latin American and Latino Art digital platform has played an immeasurable role in the establishment and formulation of these disciplines and on an international scale. Having recently celebrated 20 years, this text reexamines the earliest stages of project and its current and future projects. Key to the discussion are the ways in which the ICAA utilizes digital technologies to encourage the expansion and visibility of these fields by making primary source documents accessible to the public.
