The intellectual biography of A. J. Greimas currently in preparation by the author raises fundamental questions concerning the scientific goals of preserving the memory of such a researcher. In this case, the lessons of his bold proposals can encourage innovation and creativity in today’s scholars. In addition to his research, the biography draws from numerous archival documents, letters, and interviews. The project highlights the importance of collecting and sharing such archival materials and personal memories in a timely manner. These sources combine with the research that Greimas produced to provide the central triad of ingredients that the biographer must blend and transform into the account of a life and a scientific quest. (Post) Greimassian semiotics can analyze each of these three discursive types at the heart of the intellectual biography as genre, specifying their units, totalities, enunciative practices, contexts, and evaluative criteria.
