    Los terapeutas de Alejandría, descritos por Filón, se distinguieron de otras corrientes religiosas y filosóficas judías por realizar una vida dedicada a la contemplación y a labores intelectuales, que llevaban consigo el estudio y la interpretación de textos sagrados, además de la composición de escritos, salmodias, himnos y cánticos en honor de la divinidad. Esta vida retirada y aislada del mundo fue posible gracias a su empeño en fortificar su existencia por medio de ejercicios espirituales, basados en el autocontrol y en la austeridad. En este artículo queremos estudiar cuales fueron esos comportamientos que implicaban el cuidado de sí y su relación con la renuncia a los placeres seculares.

    The therapeutai of Alexandria described by Philo distinguished themselves from other Jewish religious and philosophical currents by leading a life consecrated to contemplation, and to intellectual work that involved the study and interpretation of sacred texts, as well as the composition of writings, psalmodies, hymns and songs in honor of the divinity. This retired life, isolated from the world, was possible thanks to his efforts to fortify their spirit by spiritual exercises, based on self-control and austerity. In this article, we want to study what those behaviours were which entailed self-caring implied and its relationship with the renunciation of secular pleasures.
