  Benjamín Martínez Castañeda (Ciudad de México, 1988) es artista-investigador. Maestro en Artes Visuales por la FAD (UNAM). Su investigación gira en torno a las figuras del Drag Queen y el travestismo en la cultura visual contemporánea en América Latina. Considera el dragcuinismo como una metodología de investigación y producción artística. Actualmente es Profesor de Tiempo Completo de la FAD (UNAM), donde forma parte del Grupo de Investigación en Diseño de Exposiciones “Patricia Real Fierros”. Ha presentado su tesis doctoral en el programa de Doctorado en Artes Visuales, Escénicas e Interdisciplina (INBAL), con la investigación peDRAGogía. Educación artística y travestismo. Su interés se encuentra en la figura del Drag como iconoclasia del gusto estético heterosexista, viendo en el travestismo una praxis estética capaz de reconfigurar el cuerpo, el género y la identidad, desde lo que llama tecnologías de la esponja, las cuales cobran fuerza a partir del carácter performático de las pelucas sintéticas, las altas plataformas, las esponjas que moldean sus cuerpos, el maquillaje que borra el rostro y reconstruye una identidad nueva, así como el hechizo que produce la ilusión óptica para quien mire a este monstruo. Sus investigaciones recientes han girado hacia la educación artística recurriendo al Drag como metodología de enseñanza-aprendizaje, proceso que ha titulado peDRAGogía, un encuentro entre el travestismo y la enseñanza de la historia del arte como performance.

  Benjamín Martínez Castañeda (Mexico City, 1988) is an artist-researcher. He holds a Master's degree in Visual Arts from the FAD (UNAM). His research revolves around the figures of the Drag Queen and transvestism in contemporary visual culture in Latin America. He considers dragcuinism as a methodology of research and artistic production. He is currently a Full Time Professor at the FAD (UNAM), where he is part of the Research Group in Exhibition Design "Patricia Real Fierros". He has presented his doctoral thesis in the PhD program in Visual, Performing and Interdisciplinary Arts (INBAL), with the research peDRAGogía. Artistic education and transvestism. Her interest lies in the figure of Drag as an iconoclasm of heterosexist aesthetic taste, seeing in transvestism an aesthetic praxis capable of reconfiguring the body, gender and identity, from what she calls technologies of the sponge, which gain strength from the performative nature of synthetic wigs, high platforms, sponges that mold their bodies, the makeup that erases the face and reconstructs a new identity, as well as the spell that produces the optical illusion for those who look at this monster. Her recent research has turned to art education, using Drag as a teaching-learning methodology, a process she has entitled peDRAGogía, an encounter between transvestism and the teaching of art history as performance.
