    El objetivo principal fue reducir las cancelaciones de cirugías programadas en una IPS a través de la metodología DMAIC de Lean Seix Sigma, la cual se basa en definir, medir, analizar, mejorar y controlar. En la primera etapa, definir, se analizaron los datos del periodo de julio-diciembre de 2019 y se definió el número de cirugías programadas, cuántas fueron realizadas y cuántas canceladas teniendo en cuenta todas las especialidades. En la segunda etapa, medir, se estudiaron las variables de cirugías y se estableció un diagrama de proceso para la programación de cirugías. Para la tercera etapa, analizar, dichos datos fueron analizados y se establecieron las posibles relaciones causa-efecto de cancelaciones de cirugía mediante el uso de herramientas estadísticas. En la cuarta etapa, mejorar, se genera una lista de mejoras o estrategias que ataquen las oportunidades de mejora, por último, en la quinta, controlar, se establecieron los controles necesarios para asegurar que el sistema implantado se mantenga en el tiempo más pertinente para la disminución de cancelaciones de cirugías. Con las mejoras implementadas, se lograron identificar los problemas presentes en el servicio y qué ocasionaba retraso en el programa o cancelaciones de cirugías.

    The main objective is to reduce the cancellations of scheduled surgeries ina Health-Sevices-Provider Institution (aka IPS because its spanish language acronym)through the Lean Six Sigma DMAIC methodology. The proposed approach is based onthe DMAIC methodology: define, measure, analyze, improve and control. In the firststage of this methodology; define, data from the months July to December 2019 wasanalyzed, the number of scheduled surgeries was found, how many were performed andhow many were cancelled, considering all the medical specialties. In the second stage;measure, the surgical variables were studied and a process diagram was established forthe scheduling of surgeries. In the third stage, analyze, the obtained data was analyzedand the possible cause-effect relationships of surgery cancellations were established through the use of statistical tools. In the fourth stage; improve, a list of improvementsor strategies facing the opportunities for improvement is generated and in the fift hand last stage; control, the necessary controls were established to ensure that the implemented system remains more relevant over time in order to decrease the number of surgical cancellations. With the improvements implemented, it is possible to identify theservice problems and what causes delays in the scheduling of surgeries or their cancellation.
