Resumen de Kuznets vs. Myrdal: desigualdad económica en China, un análisis regional

  El objetivo de este trabajo es probar, para el caso del tema de la desigualdad económica en China, si están presentes las hipótesis de Kuznets o de Myrdal a nivel de principales regiones para el periodo de 1993 a 2022. Con datos oficiales, se emplean tres indicadores de desigualdad: coeficientes de variación, de Gini e índice de Theil. Los resultados muestran: i) un crecimiento y disminución de desigualdad, con las dos primeras métricas; ii) con el tercer indicador, se observa una desigualdad decreciente, predominada por un componente interregional, en la primera mitad del periodo, y luego por el componente intrarregional. Se concluye con la posible presencia de un efecto más de tipo Kuznets mostrada con dos de los tres indicadores, pero ninguno muestra la conjetura de Myrdal.

  The objective of this paper is to test, in the case of economic inequality in China, whether the Kuznets or Myrdal hypotheses are present, at the level of the main regions for the period from 1993 to 2022. With official data, three inequality indicators are used: coefficients of variation, Gini and Theil index. The results show: i) a growth and decrease in inequality, with the first two metrics; ii) with the third indicator, a decreasing inequality is observed, dominated by an interregional component, in the first half of the period, and later by the intraregional component. It concludes with the possible presence of one more Kuznets-type effect shown with two of the three indicators, but none shows the Myrdal conjecture.
