Resumen de A ascensão e queda de uma princesa babilónica no século XIV A.C.: Tawananna, de rainha a proscrita do Ḫatti

  The marriage between the daughter of the Babylonian ruler Burna Buriaš II and the Hittite king Šuppiluliuma I, which took place sometime in the early years of the second half of the 14th century BCE, allowed for the promotion of that princess within the intricacies of the Ḫattuša court. However, a few decades later, her stepson and new ruler, Muršili II, decreed her expulsion, after a tense coexistence and a persecutory process filled with intrigue.

  With the discussion of this case-study, we aim to relate the authority and political-religious influence that this woman accumulated in the Ḫatti to the reasons that led her stepson to confront her. Thus, and in line with renewed historiographical trends which have sought to revisit the role of women within the different ancient contexts of Western Asia and Eastern Mediterranean, we hope to contribute to the ongoing discussion on female agency in the political-diplomatic system of the Late Bronze Age

  O casamento entre a filha do governante babilónico Burna Buriaš II e o rei hitita Šuppiluliuma I, realizado algures nos primeiros anos da segunda metade do século XIV a.C., permitiu a promoção daquela princesa no seio dos meandros da corte de Ḫattuša. Porém, poucas décadas depois, o seu enteado e novo governante, Muršili II, decretou a sua expulsão, após uma convivência tensa e um processo persecutório repleto de intrigas.

  Com a discussão deste caso de estudo, pretendemos relacionar a autoridade e influência político-religiosa que esta mulher acumulou no Ḫatti com os motivos que levaram o seu enteado a enfrentá-la. Assim, e na linha das renovadas tendências historiográficas, que têm procurado revisitar o papel das mulheres nos diferentes contextos da antiguidade da Ásia Ocidental e do Mediterrâneo Oriental, esperamos contribuir para a discussão em curso sobre a agência feminina no sistema político-diplomático do Bronze final.
