  • Resumen
    • In this paper the socio-economical process of Trujillo in the XVII century is reconstructed. Therefore, a brief overview of its foundation is presented in addition to the first land composition, in order to understand how the territorial property was conformed and concentrated in the hands of the first conquerors descendants and settlers, which brough up a territorial aristocracy, that rested upon the indigenous who were servants or slaves. This scenario was affected by a number of continuous landslides which occured at the end of 1673 and the beginning of 1674; they transformed this prosperous city and its boundaries in a total chaos. The houses, churches, convents, and the cacao farms in the Poco Valley were in ruins. All these events, in addition to the invasion of the pirate Grammont in 1678 brought about a migratory movement of the population to some other areas of the Venezuela province, and a trading process of the land began. This process was strengthend when the personal encomienda expired in 1687.
