El autor realiza un extenso recorrido de descripción y análisis de los exvotos marinos que existen en numerosas iglesias tanto dentro como fuera de España, incluyendo los que forman parte del patrimonio de la Hermandad Matriz de Almonte y están dedicados a la Virgen del Rocío. Los exvotos que nos presenta el artículo no son solamente en forma de maquetas de embarcaciones tridimensionales, ya que también aparecen muchas obras pictóricas referentes a milagros y sucesos ocurridos en la mar.
