La fiesta litúrgica de la Natividad de la Virgen María evoca el fin de la noche, del pecado original, y el inicio del día, de la Redención, por medio de imágenes: estrella de la mañana, alba y rocío. Así lo sugieren los teólogos como Juan Gersón (1363-1429) y San Juan de Ávila (1500-1569), cuando llaman a María «Alba», «generatrix roris», Madre del Rocío.
