    In Luís Cardoso's narratives, the movements, effective or symbolic, arepowerful and succeed in highlighting all kinds of polarizations: ethnic and religiousdifferences; social and political divides; the myth and fact; the possibility and theimpossibility. The exercise, which is presented here, analyzes the evolutionary trajectory ofthe male Cardosian characters (Takas, Lucas Santiago, Pigafetta and Evaristo de Aquino) inthe light of the previous binomials and, also, framing such displacements in different planes:that of the journey itself; the fragmentation of the self; identity and exile. It is believed thatthe analysis of the different characters makes it possible to revisit a polyphonic mosaic onwhat were the experiences and experiences of many Timorese in the last quarters of the 20thcentury and in the first decades of the present century.

    Nas narrativas de Luís Cardoso, as movimentações, efectivas ou simbólicas, sãopoderosas e logram colocar em evidência todo o tipo de polarizações: diferenças étnicas ereligiosas; clivagens sociais e políticas; o mito e facto; a possibilidade e a impossibilidade. Oexercício, que aqui se apresenta, analisa o percurso evolutivo das personagens masculinascardosianas (Takas, Lucas Santiago, Pigafetta e Evaristo de Aquino) à luz dos binómiosanteriores e, também, enquadrando tais deslocações em diferentes planos: o da própriaviagem; o da fragmentação do eu; o da identidade e o do exílio. É de crer que a análise dasdiferentes personagens permita revisitar um mosaico polifónico sobre o que foram asvivências e as experiências de muitos timorenses nos últimos quartéis do século XX e nasprimeiras décadas do presente século.
