Como parte de la evolución humana, el artista también se adapta al medio y a los nuevos tiempos. En la gráfica tradicional, concretamente, han sido necesarios varios siglos para perfeccionarla -tal y como la conocemos hoy día- y sus procesos se han ido constituyendo de forma lenta, mientras que la nueva gráfica, gráfica experimental o gráfica expandida evoluciona a una velocidad imparable en búsqueda de un concepto totalmente diferente. El fluctuante mercado del arte busca la atención de un público más amplio y heterogéneo, demanda incesantemente lo diferente, lo extravagante, lo transgresor, lo nunca visto, lo imposible, y el artista se ve abocado a la búsqueda de la tan cotizada interdisciplinariedad, transdisciplinariedad y transversalidad. ¿Qué es grabado y qué no? Surgen interrogantes que cuestionan incluso la figura del grabador, rara avis, anacrónica y sustituida actualmente por el artista gráfico o por el visual artist.

As part of human evolution, the artist has also adapted to the artistic fields and to the new times. In traditional graphics, specifically, it has taken several centuries to perfect them -as we know them nowadays- and their processes have been built up slowly, while new graphics, experimental graphics or expanded graphics evolve at an unstoppable speed in search of a totally different concept. The fluctuating art market seeks the attention of a wider and more heterogeneous audience, incessantly demanding the different, the extravagant, the transgressive, the unseen, the impossible, and the artist is driven to the search for the much sought-after interdisciplinarity, transdisciplinarity and transversality. What is engraving and what is not? Questions arise that concern even the figure of the engraver, rara avis, anachronistic and currently replaced by the graphic artist or the visual artist.
