El suicidio como causa de muerte supera a muchas enfermedades muy extendidas en el mundo también constituye la causa más frecuente de muerte violenta no accidental. A escala planetaria causa más muertes que el terrorismo y las guerras. En las últimas dos décadas en el Paraguay, el incremento en el número de suicidios ha sido notable y bastante preocupante si se toma en cuenta que no existe un servicio público de auxilio para situaciones de riesgo de suicidio y el presupuesto de salud mental del país es el más bajo del Cono Sur. Al mismo tiempo que la crisis económica, el desempleo y la precariedad laboral, afectan sobre todo a la franja etaria juvenil, allí también es donde se ubica la cantidad más alta de suicidios de los últimos años, el análisis de este trabajo comporta sobre todo el año 2020. No hay peor problema que desconocer el problema. El número de suicidios en Paraguay es más alto que los homicidios y feminicidios, en 12 años hubo un incremento del 218%. Urge investigar causas y detonantes y pensar en respuestas políticas de urgencia y también estructurales.

Suicide as a cause of death exceeds many widespread diseases in the world and is also the most common cause of non-accidental violent death. On a planetary scale it causes more deaths than terrorism and wars. In the last two decades in Paraguay, the increase in the number of suicides has been notable and quite worrying if one takes into account that there is no public service to help in situations of risk of suicide and the country's mental health budget is the lowest in the Southern Cone. At the same time that the economic crisis, unemployment and job insecurity affect especially the youth age group, this is also where the highest number of suicides in recent years is located, the analysis of this work involves, above all, the year 2020. There is no worse problem than not knowing the problem. The number of suicides in Paraguay is higher than homicides and femicides, in 12 years there was an increase of 218%. It is urgent to investigate causes and triggers and think about urgent political responses as well as structural ones.
