Margarita Mendizábal, vivienda social y participación: Dos proyectos en Madrid

    El siguiente artículo expone dos proyectos de vivienda social colectiva realizados en Madrid por la arquitecta Margarita Mendizábal Aracama. Son dos proyectos de veinticuatro y ciento nueve viviendas realizados en 1969 y 1978, respectivamente, que destacan por incorporar en su proceso de diseño la arquitectura de participación. Este singular método de proyecto, poco habitual en la práctica arquitectónica de España, permitió reflejar tanto las demandas habitacionales de los futuros usuarios como la función simbólica que la arquitectura de sus viviendas debía adoptar. A pesar de estar localizados en dos ámbitos paradigmáticos de Madrid como son Moratalaz (desarrollado por la Obra Sindical del Hogar) y la ACTUR de Tres Cantos y haber sido realizados por una de las arquitectas pioneras de España, su carácter modesto y sus dimensiones contenidas han pasado desapercibidas para la historiografía. El texto tiene como objetivos, por una parte, reflejar el valor instrumental del proyecto participativo y su aplicación en estos dos proyectos de vivienda social colectiva; y, por otra, dar a conocer la obra de Margarita Mendizábal, para contribuir a ampliar el conocimiento sobre la arquitectura y la cultura arquitectónica en España.

    The following article exposes two collective social housing projects carried out in Madrid by the architect Margarita Mendizábal Aracama. They are two projects of twenty-four and one hundred and nine homes carried out in 1969 and 1978, respectively, that stand out for incorporating participatory architecture into their design process. This unique project method, unusual in architectural practice in Spain, allowed us to reflect both the housing demands of future users and the symbolic function that the architecture of their homes had to adopt. Despite being located in two paradigmatic areas of Madrid such as Moratalaz (developed by the Obra Sindical del Hogar) and the ACTUR of Tres Cantos and having been carried out by one of the architects pioneers of Spain, their modest character and their contained dimensions have gone unnoticed by historiography. The objectives of the text are, on the one hand, to reflect the historical value of the participatory project and its application in these two collective social housing projects; and, on the other hand, to publicize the work of Margarita Mendizábal, to contribute to expanding knowledge about architecture and architectural culture in Spain
