    Este artículo ofrece un estudio diferente sobre las imágenes que José Luján Pérez (1756-1815) esculpió para la parroquia de Santa María de Guía, su pueblo natal. No se limita a análisis o comentarios artísticos, sino que, basándose en datos que aporta la documentación del templo, profundiza en el contexto histórico que las condiciona, su realidad cultural, la tradición o el sentido piadoso que heredan, los espacios donde quedaron situadas por diversos comitentes y, sobre todo, la notoriedad que alcanzaron como bienes adscritos al pensamiento ilustrado y a los ideales académicos en vigor.

    This paper offers a different interpretation of the devotional sculptures that José Lujan Pérez (1756-1815) made for the parish of Santa Maria de Guía, his hometown. It is not limited to analysis of artistic components, but, based on information provided by the documentation, insist on the historical context that conditions them, their cultic reality, the tradition or pious sense they inherit, the spaces where they were initially located by various patrons and, above all, the notoriety they achieved as manufactures attached to Enlightenment and academic ideals.
