    National style is a widely acknowledged Chinese animation style produced in 1950s and the 1980s. Proved by scholars around the world, national style animations represented distinct Chinese cultural meanings and preformed the educational function of constructing the Chinese national identity. While there are plenty of research on how the animation styles resembling the traditional Chinese art represent the Chinese cultures on the artistic aspect, the researchers have not paid enough attention to the animated feature film adapted from classical novels, represented by the most renowned Chinese animation Havoc in Heaven (1961, 1964). As an animation adapted from the classical Chinese novel which can directly represent Chinese cultures, it did not faithfully represent the original story. Through the case study of Havoc in Heaven with adaptation theories, this paper analyzes how the animated adaptation constructed its cultural meanings and national identify for the socialist Chinese society.

    El estilo nacional es un estilo de animación chino ampliamente reconocido y producido en las décadas de 1950 y 1980. Demostradas por académicos de todo el mundo, las animaciones de estilo nacional representaban distintos significados culturales chinos y desempeñaban la función educativa de construir la identidad nacional china. Si bien hay muchas investigaciones sobre cómo los estilos de animación que se asemejan al arte tradicional chino representan las culturas chinas en el aspecto artístico, los investigadores no han prestado suficiente atención al largometraje de animación adaptado de novelas clásicas, representado por la animación china más reconocida Havoc in Heaven (1961, 1964). Como animación adaptada de la novela clásica china que puede representar directamente las culturas chinas, no representa fielmente la historia original. A través del estudio de caso de Havoc in Heaven con teorías de adaptación, este artículo analiza cómo la adaptación animada construyó sus significados culturales y su identidad nacional para la sociedad socialista china.
