In this work I focus on the so-called question of identities from the theoretical framework proposed by contemporary multiculturalism. I try to inquire about risks generated by proposals from multiculturalist authors, mainly from the Italian sphere, when they change the idea of tolerance between different people for that of recognition of differentiated cultures and identities. Modern moral individualism – ethical foundation of liberalism – join badly with affiliations to groups. I raise the possibility of a democratic individualist conception, of Bobbio’s origin, which recognizes the links of individual with society without diluting his identity in that of some other collective.
