    • A project-based learning experience (PBL) for Statistics in the agri-food field is presented. It wasdeveloped by the Applied Mathematics area with the cooperation of Plant Physiology and Plant Production atthe School of Agricultural Engineering (EIA) of the University of Extremadura. The objective is to improvethe skills of first-year students in the subject of Statistics. The students carried out the experimental trial in thegreenhouse. Then, they performed a statistical analysis of the data and obtained results which were used toelaborate a scientific paper. The students also made an exposition of their work. The evaluation of the experience showed an improvement in academic results. Furthermore, the students considered the task to be verypositive for their training and for the acquisition of competences, as well as to acknowledge the necessity ofStatistics for their future professions
