  • Resumen
    • In February, 1972, Louisianians selected Edwin W. Edwards as governor of their state. Unlike most contemporary politicians who rely upon television and radio to reach the public, Edwards almost completely shunned the media in favor of the personal contact allowed by the good will speech situation. This article examines the nature of the role of the Congressional good will speaker in our political heritage, considers Edwards as a case study of a Representative acting out this role, and describes the reactions of constituents to their Congressmen's role‐playing. The study has potential implications for the politician who neglects personal contact with small groups in favor of the larger audiences afforded by the mass media.
