A finales del siglo XVII se fundó en Madrid el segundo convento de Carmelitas Descalzas con autorización de un Breve Pontificio, que ha llegado hasta nosotros, no así el primero. Sus vicisitudes a lo largo de estos siglos, su legado y la impronta que han dejado en esta Villa y Corte ha hecho que cariñosamente se las conozca como “Las Teresas”. Antaño estaban ubicadas a las afueras de la capital y hoy se encuentran plenamente incorporadas en el bullicio de la ciudad, constituyendo un oasis o remanso de paz y oración, al modo de los “palomarcitos” de la reformadora Santa Teresa de Jesús.

At the end of the 17th century, the second convent of the Discalced Carmelite nuns was founded in Madrid with the authorisation of a Papal Brief, which has come down to us, but not the first. Their vicissitudes throughout these centuries, their legacy and the mark they have left on this court have led them to be affectionately known as “Las Teresas”. Once located on the outskirts of the capital, today they are fully incorporated into the bustle of the city, constituting an oasis or haven of peace and prayer, in the style of the “palomarcitos” of the reformer Saint Teresa of Jesus.
