El desarrollo de la sensibilidad intercultural del alumnado a través del desarrollo de nuevas herramientas online para el aprendizaje

    La sociedad actual se ha convertido en un entorno de gran diversidad cultural. Y es en éste en el que deberán intervenir los futuros profesionales que actualmente se encuentran estudiando el Grado de Trabajo Social. Por ello se hace necesaria una educación intercultural que eduque desde el respeto, el intercambio y la aceptación. La comunicación intercultural, entendida como un intercambio intercultural recíproco (Vilà, 2012) es una competencia necesaria para el ejercicio de la ciudadanía. Y que requiere de una mayor atención a la sensibilidad intercultural. Entendiendo por tal las capacidades que tienen las personas para emitir respuestas emocionales positivas y controlar aquellas emociones que pueden perjudicar el proceso comunicativo intercultural (Chen y Starosta, 1998). Por esta razón, desde el curso pasado estamos desarrollando un proyecto de innovación docente con el fin de fomentar el desarrollo de la sensibilidad intercultural del alumnado. Para ello estamos desarrollando nuevas herramientas online para el aprendizaje. Para lo que el profesorado, con la colaboración del alumnado, ha construido un blog que incluye una biblioteca intercultural online, una caja de herramientas, un banco de casos y que incorpora también algunos videos elaborados por el propio estudiantado de sensibilización profesional para las intervenciones sociales. Estas herramientas online son enriquecidas en el tiempo con la incorporación de nuevos materiales que, a su vez, son empleados como materiales de enseñanza y aprendizaje sobre las intervenciones en contextos de diversidad cultural. Con esta nueva metodología el alumnado logra adquirir nuevos aprendizajes significativos. En esta iniciativa colaboramos especialistas multidisciplinares de 4 universidades internacionales: Universidad de Valencia (España), Universidad de Chile, Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (Ecuador) y Universidad Católica de Valencia (España). Inicialmente el proyecto fue liderado por 4 profesoras/es de la Universidad de Valencia, una de la Universidad de Chille y otra de la UTPL (Ecuador) –siendo todas ellas expertas en temas de diversidad cultural y migraciones-, abarcando inicialmente un total de 10 asignaturas. Pero este curso la experiencia se ha extendido a un total de 19 asignaturas de la Universidad de Valencia y 4 de la Universidad Católica de Valencia y un equipo formado por 13 docentes.

    Today’s society has become an environment of great cultural diversity. That will be the context on the students of Social Work will work at the future. For this reason, an intercultural education is necessary to educate them from respect, exchange and acceptance. The intercultural communication, understood as a reciprocal intercultural exchange (Vilà, 2012) is a necessary competence for the exercise of citizenship. That requires greater attention to intercultural sensitivity. This is understood as the ability of people to emit positive emotional responses and control those emotions that can impair the intercultural communicative process (Chen & Starosta, 1998). For this reason, since last year we have been developing a teaching innovation project in order to promote the development of students’ intercultural sensitivity. With this target, we are developing new online tools for learning. For this reason, the teachers, with the collaboration of the students, have built a blog that includes an online intercultural library, a toolbox, a case bank and some videos made by the students themselves to raise professional awareness for social interventions. These online tools are enriched over time with the incorporation of new materials that, in turn, are used as teaching and learning materials on interventions in contexts of cultural diversity. With this new methodology, students are able to acquire significant new learning. In this initiative we collaborate multidisciplinary specialists from 4 international universities: University of Valencia (Spain), University of Chile, Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (Ecuador) and Catholic University of Valencia (Spain). Initially, the project was led by 4 professors from the University of Valencia, one from the University of Chille and another from the UTPL (Ecuador) –all of them being experts in issues of cultural diversity and migration-, initially covering a total of 10 subjects. But this year the experience has been extended to a total of 19 subjects from the University of Valencia and 4 from the Catholic University of Valencia and a team made up of 13 teachers.
