El conocimiento de la normativa contable resulta esencial, no solo para la emisión de los estados financieros y la auditoría de los mismos, sino también y de forma destacada para el análisis de dicha información con objeto de interpretarla y obtener conclusiones sobre la situación y perspectivas de la empresa analizada.
En el caso concreto del reciente colapso del Silicon Valley Bank podrían identificarse, en opinión del autor de estas líneas, dos aspectos destacados. Uno de ellos, la posible necesidad de mejorar la normativa contable para limitar el uso del coste amortizado en el balance cuando el valor de mercado de un activo financiero líquido es muy inferior. El segundo, la importancia de que el analista financiero conozca perfectamente la normativa contable y, cuando no esté de acuerdo con ella o con las hipótesis que la empresa ha utilizado en sus estados financieros, realice los ajustes pertinentes para llegar a sus conclusiones

Knowledge of accounting regulations is essential, not only for the issuance of financial statements and their audit, but also and importantly for the analysis of said information to interpret it and obtain conclusions about the situation and perspective of the analysed company. In the specific case of the recent collapse of the Silicon Valley Bank, two notable aspects could be identified, in the opinion of the author of these lines. One of them, the possible need to improve accounting regulations to limit the use of amortized cost in the balance sheet when the market value of a liquid financial asset is much lower. The second is the importance of the financial analyst knowing the accounting regulations perfectly and, when they do not agree with them or with the assumptions that the company has used in their financial statements, make the pertinent adjustments to reach their conclusions.
