Motivaciones de ingreso de estudiantes de pedagogía: caso de una universidad del norte de Chile

    El objetivo del presente estudio es dar a conocer las principales motivaciones de las y los estudiantes que ingresan a pedagogía en una universidad del norte de Chile, recopilados en tres cohortes distintas en los años 2016, 2018 y 2022. El estudio se encuentra situado en el paradigma cuantitativo, con un alcance descriptivo y se utiliza como referencia el estudio de caso como metodología de análisis y justificación de los datos. El instrumento de recolección de información es una adaptación del original aplicado en el año 2007 y fue validado por un panel de expertos. La configuración del instrumento permite determinar las principales motivaciones para los estudios de pedagogía e indagar sobre otros no recolectados anteriormente. Su aplicación se realizó a un total de 7 pedagogías distintas, con una participación de más del 80% del estudiantado de cada carrera. En cuanto a la caracterización de la muestra, se destaca el género femenino mayoritariamente en el ingreso a pedagogía, personas estudiantes que viven dentro de la misma región de la institución y con puntajes sobre los 500 puntos PSU (Prueba Selección Universitaria), lo cual configura un perfil estudiantil de primer año. Los resultados muestran una tendencia clara en los tres años de su aplicación destacándose: El gusto por la especialidad de mi carrera, seguido de Me gustaba la idea de trabajar con niños y/o jóvenes, Me gustaba la enseñanza y Deseaba ayudar a los demás mediante el ejercicio de la docencia. Estas categorías se relacionan con otros estudios de la temática, en años y contextos diversos, por lo cual al parecer existen motivaciones comunes en el interés por la pedagogía. Contar con esta información ofrece una oportunidad a la institución para el levantamiento de acciones de retención de personas estudiantes orientadas a las motivaciones y a la captación de futuros y futuras docentes, pero así también a profundizar en la temática considerando otras variables como por ejemplo si existe variación del interés de acuerdo con el área disciplinar, los diferentes años que cursan la carrera o la trayectoria profesional.

    This research seeks to present the main motivations of pedagogy students at a university in northern Chile, between the years 2016, 2018, and 2022. The researchers employed a quantitative paradigm with a descriptive scope; likewise, they used the case study as a reference as a methodology for analyzing and justifying the data. For its part, the data collection instrument consists of an adaptation of the original applied in 2007, which was validated by a panel of experts. The configuration of the instrument determines the main motivations for pedagogy studies and investigates others not previously collected. Its application was carried out in a total of 7 different pedagogies, with the participation of more than 80% of the students of each major. Regarding the characterization of the sample, the female gender stood out when entering pedagogy, as well as students who live within the same region of the institution and with scores over 500 PSU points (University Selection Test); this sets up the first-year student profile. Furthermore, the results show a clear trend in the three years of its application, highlighting: The taste for the speciality of my career, followed by I liked the idea of working with children and/or young people, I liked the teaching and I wanted to help others through the exercise of teaching. Because these categories are related to other studies from different years and contexts, but on the same topic, it can be stated that there are common motivations for the interest in teaching. Having this information offers an opportunity for the institution to carry out student retention actions aimed at motivating and attracting future teachers. Likewise, the topic can be delved into by considering other variables, such as whether there is variation in interest according to the disciplinary area, the different years of the degree, or the professional career.
