Resumen de The magnificent barbarian at Nashville

Pat Jefferson

  • The words “Stokely Carmichael” and “Black Power” immediately suggest rebellion and violence to American mass media. The Nashville (Tennessee) press was no exception when it opposed Carmichael's invitation to speak at the Impact ‘67 symposium held on the Vanderbilt University campus April 8, 1967, and predicted that riots would follow his appearance. In this article the writer examines the speaking situation in Nashville and evaluates Carmichael's rhetorical abilities.
