La conmemoración de los 50 años del golpe de Estado en Chile contra el gobierno constitucional de Salvador Allende, ocurrido el 11 de septiembre de 1973, fue el marco para que se activara en el país el debate sobre el significado de esta fecha. A nivel político, la discusión se centró en la reaparición de las voces conservadoras que justificaron la asonada golpista. Por su parte, desde el punto de vista historiográfico, se reactivó la pugna sobre el significado de los años de la Unidad Popular. El artículo describe algunos de los ejes de estos debates, reafirmando los importantes avances que se han realizado para refutar las tesis monocausales y anticomunistas de la historiografía conservadora.

The commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the coup d’état in Chile against the constitutional government of Salvador Allende, which took place on September 11, 1973, was the framework for the debate on the meaning of this date to be activated in the country. At the political level, the discussion focused on the reappearance of conservative voices that justified the coup. On the other hand, from the historiographical point of view, the struggle over the meaning of the years of the Popular Unity was reactivated. The article describes some of the aspects of these debates, reaffirming the important advances that have been made to refute the monocausal and anticommunist theses of conservative historiography.
