    RESUMEN El objetivo del trabajo consiste en analizar la posible introducción de un sistema de captura de biogás en el relleno sanitario de la ciudad de Portoviejo, con el fin de su utilización para la generación de energía eléctrica, de modo que se consiga reducir el impacto ambiental y se logre aportar energía al sistema eléctrico del territorio. Para el cálculo de la producción de biogás se empleó el Modelo Mexicano de Biogás versión 2.0, desarrollado por SCS Engineers bajo acuerdo con el programa Landfill Methane Outreach (LMOP) de la Agencia de Protección Ambiental de Estados Unidos (USEPA). Se concluye que una inversión encaminada a lograr una gestión ambientalmente adecuada de los residuales sólidos, que se depositan en el relleno sanitario de la ciudad de Portoviejo puede ser viable desde el punto de vista energético, ambiental, económico y socialmente útil para el territorio.

    ABSTRACT The objective of the work is to analyze the possible introduction of a biogas capture system in the sanitary landfill of the city of Portoviejo, in order to use it to generate electricity, so as to reduce the environmental impact and it is possible to provide energy to the electrical system of the territory. For the calculation of biogas production, the Mexican Biogas Model version 2.0 was used, developed by SCS Engineers under agreement with the Landfill Methane Outreach program (LMOP) of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). It is concluded that an investment aimed at achieving an environmentally adequate management of solid waste, which is deposited in the sanitary landfill of the city of Portoviejo, can be viable from the energetic, environmental, economic and socially useful point of view for the territory.
