Durante su largo exilio, María Zambrano nunca dejó de reflexionar sobre España, sobre su tradición literaria y de pensamiento, sobre sus sueños y fracasos. Tampoco Europa la abandonó, imponiéndose como tema de reflexión acuciante sobre todo a raíz de la Segunda Guerra Mundial y de la ocupación nazi de Francia. Sin embargo, también América tuvo un papel fundamental en sus escritos y en su vida, influyendo en las reflexiones sobre España y Europa hasta su definitivo regreso al continente europeo en 1953.

During her long exile, María Zambrano never ceased to reflect on Spain, on its literary and intellectual tradition, on its dreams and failures. Nor did she abandon Europe, which became a pressing subject of reflection, especially in the aftermath of the Second World War and the Nazi occupation of France. However, America played also a fundamental role in her writings and life, influencing her reflections on Spain and Europe until her definitive return to the European continent in 1953.
