Terapia ocupacional en pacientes en fase terminal

    La atención al final de la vida constituye sin duda para todos los profesionales sanitarios uno de los retos asistenciales de mayor complejidad. Desde un punto de vista sencillo, sin duda el desafío del paciente y el nuestro propio debería de ser que la muerte y el proceso de morir ocurran con el menor sufrimiento posible, de acuerdo a los deseos, y dentro del contexto de sus creencias, valores y tradiciones. Mediante esta investigación se pretende exponer las líneas generales de actuación desde la Terapia Ocupacional ante un paciente terminal; entendiendo que el aporte de los terapeutas a los cuidados paliativos es mucho mayor y comprende toda su formación, debiéndose individualizar para cada paciente en concreto, sin generalizar; y siempre colaborando dentro de un equipo multidisciplinar.

    OBJETIVO: Conocer cómo la Terapia Ocupacional beneficia en mejorar la calidad de vida de los pacientes en fase terminal.

    METODOLOGÍA: Búsqueda bibliográfica reciente en las principales bases de datos: Dialnet, Google Académico y se consultan varios libros de Terapia Ocupacional.

    RESULTADOS: Las intervenciones realizadas en pacientes en fase terminal desde el ámbito de la Terapia Ocupacional, como el resto de las disciplinas dedicadas al cuidado integral de la persona, se dirige especialmente a conseguir que el paciente esté lo más confortable posible y en equilibrio con su entorno, principalmente con las personas que lo rodean.

    CONCLUSIÓN: En el proceso de atención a personas en fase terminal, el terapeuta ocupacional, dentro del equipo multidisciplinar, debe de enfocar su objetivo en favorecer la calidad de vida tanto del paciente como de su familia, permitiendo que sea un sujeto activo hasta final de sus días.

    End-of-life care is undoubtedly one of the most complex healthcare challenges for all healthcare professionals. From a simple point of view, surely the challenge of the patient and our own should be that death and the dying process occur with as little suffering as possible, according to desires, and within the context of their beliefs, values and traditions. Through this research, it is intended to expose the general lines of action from Occupational Therapy to a terminal patient; understanding that the contribution of therapists to palliative care is much greater and includes all their training, which must be individualized for each specific patient, without generalizing; and always collaborating within a multidisciplinary team. OBJECTIVE: To know how Occupational Therapy benefits in improving the quality of life of terminally ill patients.

    METHODOLOGY: Recent bibliographic search in the main databases: Pubmed, Dialnet, Google Scholar and several books on Occupational Therapy are consulted.

    RESULTS: The interventions carried out in terminally ill patients from the field of Occupational Therapy, like the rest of the disciplines dedicated to the comprehensive care of the person, are especially aimed at ensuring that the patient is as comfortable as possible and in balance with their environment, mainly with the people around them.

    CONCLUSION: In the process of caring for people in the terminal phase, the occupational therapist, within the multidisciplinary team, must focus his objective on favoring the quality of life of both the patient and his family, allowing him to be an active subject until the end of his day.
