    El artículo intenta reflejar la importancia de la iniciativa privada en la solución a los problemas de asistencia social. Se expone, de manera inicial, un breve recorrido histórico de los primeros intentos en el ámbito privado para disminuir las situaciones de pobreza. En segundo lugar, se plantea si el liberalismo tiene capacidad suficiente para desarrollar eficazmente soluciones a los problemas de escasez y miseria. En la última sección se desarrolla la noción de eficiencia en la solidaridad, las salidas tanto tácticas como estratégicas que la iniciativa liberal desarrolla ante las situaciones indeseables de pobreza y se presentan diversas hipótesis para el futuro de la asistencia social.

    The article tries to reflect the importance of the private initiative in the solution to the problems of social assistance. Initially, a brief historical tour of the first attempts in the private sphere to reduce situations of poverty is exposed. Secondly, it arises whether liberalism has sufficient capacity to effectively develop solutions to the problems of scarcity and misery. In the last section, the notion of efficiency in solidarity is developed, as well as the tactical and strategic solutions that the liberal initiative develops in the face of undesirable situations of poverty, and various hypotheses for the future of social assistance are presented.
