    La llegada del fin de siglo ha traído consigo un singular diagnóstico que, pronunciado insistentemente en ciertos círculos psicoanalíticos, denunciaría una transformación mayor de la sociedad occidental precipitada por una declinación sin precedentes del Nombre del Padre en la cultura. Sin embargo esta tesis no parece estar exenta de dificultades, además de encontrarse en franca contradicción con algunos aspectos implicados en las nociones sobre las que ella misma se sostiene. A partir de una discusión sobre algunos aspectos de dicha tesis, el presente trabajo busca señalar el lugar paradójico que el psicoanálisis le asigna a la Ley, además de reflexionar sobre los riesgos del reforzamiento de ésta en la sociedad contemporánea.

    With the advent of the end of the century a particular diagnostic has been insistently argued by some psychoanalytic groups, which denounce a larger transformation of the western society caused by an unprecedented downfall in culture of the Name of the Father. However, this thesis does not seem to be free of difficulties, and some of its theoretical bases contradict themselves. From a discussion of some aspects of this thesis, the paper attempts to examine the paradoxical place that psychoanalysis ascribes to Law, and it also reflects on the risks implied in the current claims to the reinforcement of the Law in the contemporary society.
