Resumen de Maltrato en la Vejez

El presente artículo es una revisión bibliográfica que intenta describir el recorridohistórico que se ha realizado al intentar definir y dimensionar la problemática delmaltrato hacia el adulto mayor, desde sus inicios hasta nuestros días. Recorrido que llega a mostrar cómo se ha avanzado en Chile respecto del conocimiento de este fenómeno. Se describe cómo en Chile se define el maltrato y cuántos tipos de maltrato existen. Al mismo tiempo que se precisan las características de los actores (víctima–victimario) y los factores de riesgo que pueden llevar a una persona anciana a encontrarse en una situación de riesgo.

The present article is a review of the literature intending to describe the history ofefforts to define and dimension maltreatment in the elderly, from its beginnings to our days. The review shows how, in Chile, some progress has been made according to the findings of novel information in this matter. It describes how maltreatment is defined in Chile and the different types of maltreatment there exist. At the same time, it specifies the characteristics of the actors (victims – victimizers) and the risk factors that lead the elderly to face a vulnerable situation.
