Confirmación del límite austral del cuy de la Patagonia (Microcavia australis), (Caviidae, Rodentia) en la región de Magallanes, sur de Chile

    Resumen: El cuy de la Patagonia (Microcavia australis) es un roedor de la familia Caviidae cuya presencia y distribución en la región de Magallanes no están claras debido a la falta de registros de especímenes vivos. Para establecer y confirmar su presencia, se revisó el depósito de colecciones biológicas "Prof. Edmundo Pisano Valdés" del Instituto de la Patagonia de la Universidad de Magallanes y se llevó a cabo una exhaustiva revisión bibliográfica de publicaciones científicas e informes ingresados al Sistema de Evaluación de Impacto Ambiental (SEIA) en la región de Magallanes entre los años 1995 al año 2020. Los resultados de ambas revisiones muestran la presencia de esta especie en el sector nororiental del estrecho de Magallanes. Basados en estos antecedentes, se realizó una campaña de terreno donde se comprobó la presencia de este roedor en el sector Cañadón Cóndor. Finalmente, se compilo un total de 6 registros de individuos vivos, 40 rastros, dos pieles y un cráneo. Con todos estos antecedentes se presenta una propuesta de distribución para la región.

    Abstract: The southern mountain cavy (Mocrocavia australis) it is a rodent of the family Ca viidae whose presence and distribution in the Magallanes region are unclear due to the lack of records of live specimens. To establish without any doubt its presence, the deposit of biological collections "Prof. Edmundo Pisano Valdés" from the Institute of Patagonia at the University of Magallanes and an exhaustive bibliographic review of scientific publications and reports entered the Environmental Impact Assessment System (SEIA) in the Magallanes region was carried out between 1995 a year 2020. The results of both reviews show the presence of this species in the northeastern sector of the Strait of Magellan. Based on these antecedents, a field campaign was carried out where the presence of this rodent was verified in the Cañadón Cóndor sector. Finally, a total of 6 records of living individuals were compiled, 40 traces, two skins, and a skull. With all these antecedents, a distribution proposal for the region is presented.
