  • The European Public Prosecutor's Office is an independent body established in 2017 to investigate, prosecute and trial serious financial crimes affecting the financial interests of the European Union although it did not become operational until 1 June 2021 as time was needed to set up the new structure. Composed of Permanent Chambers, the College, European Public Prosecutors and European Delegated Public Prosecutors from each Member State. The European Public Prosecutor's Office has the authority to investigate and prosecute anyone, including EU officials and Member States with the clear objective of protecting the EU's financial interests. In Spain, the creation of the aforementioned European Public Prosecutor's Office entailed the need to legislate a new figure, the guarantee Judge.
