    El apoyo social resulta ser eficaz siempre que, además de la buena intención, consiga realmente mejorar la autoestima del enfermo, aumenta sus ganas de vivir y de recuperar su salud, de mejorar su estado de ánimo y de reducir el impacto de la enfermedad y el reforzamiento de su red informal de apoyo. Por el contrario, toda conducta que pueda comunicar al enfermo sentimientos de impotencia, baja autoestima o que muestre una visión negativa de la vida y de su enfermedad, tendrá efectos negativos.

    Social support turns out to be effective whenever, in addition to the good intention, it really manages to improve the patient’s self-esteem, increase their desire to live and recover their health, improve their mood and reduce the impact of the illness and strengthen their informal support network. On the contrary, any behavior that may communicate to the patient feelings of helplessness, low self-esteem or that shows a negative view of life and their illness will have negative effects.
