In the hospital, the use of the nasogastric tube (NGT) is frequently to keep the gastrointestinal tract empty, administer medication, obtain samples for analysis or to feed the patient during his stay, but sometimes the patient must keep this device at home and must know how to use and care to prevent complications and ensure continuity of care. The nurse is key in this education of the patient and/or family and must deploy all necessary means to ensure that the use of this system at home meets its objectives and is safe and comfortable for the patient.
