Generalmente la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos impone un gran respeto no sólo a los familiares de los pacientes ingresados en la unidad, sino también al personal que trabaja en otras áreas, y esto se debe a que los equipos son complejos y de tecnología avanzada.
La UCI es el área donde se reciben a los pacientes con alteraciones fisiopatológicas que hayan alcanzado un nivel de gravedad tal que represente un peligro para su vida y a la vez, sean actos para su recuperación. Estos pacientes necesitan vigilancia y cuidados constantes, lo cual puede incluir aparatología específica. Los aparatos más comunes y usados en UCI incluyen monitores cardíacos, ventilación mecánica, sondas de alimentación, vías intravenosas, drenajes y catéteres Además cabe señalar que existe un gran desconocimiento de esta unidad, por lo que surja la necesidad por parte del cuerpo de Celadores de analizar en profundidad este servicio.
