El ébola es una enfermedad causada por hasta cinco tipos diferentes de virus, aunque no todos ellos son iguales respecto a la letalidad ni afectan a las mismas especies.
Los casos se limitan principalmente al continente africano, en contadas ocasiones han traspasado estas fronteras pero al hacerlo han provocado una gran alarma social. Su propagación a otros continentes se ha producido a causa de la inmigración y del transporte de material sanitario.
La enfermería tiene una importante labor con los afectados, ayudando a paliar los síntomas y siendo responsable continuo de los cuidados otorgados al paciente. Esto provoca que el número de contagios entre los sanitarios sea muy elevado.
Muchos de los tratamientos todavía están en fase de prueba, es necesario un mayor desarrollo de un tratamiento debido a su gran incidencia y su elevada tasa de letalidad.

Ebola is a disease caused by up to five different types of viruses, although not all of them are the same in terms of lethality or affect the same species.
The cases are mainly limited to the African continent; on rare occasions they have crossed these borders but in doing so they have caused great social alarm. Its spread to other continents has occurred due to immigration and the transportation of medical supplies.
Nursing has an important role with those affected, helping to alleviate symptoms and being continuously responsible for the care provided to the patient. This causes the number of infections among healthcare workers to be very high. Most of the treatments are still being tested.
There is a need for better treatment development due to the high lethality rate and incidence.
