Estamos de acuerdo en que Leibniz es uno de los más importantes filósofos del lenguaje de la Edad Moderna, sin embargo, creemos que todavía hay mucho que decir en cuanto a la relación que él establecía entre ciertos estudios de tipo etimológico y la historia e incluso lo que hoy consideramos filosofía del lenguaje e historia. Esa es la parte principal de lo que pretendemos discutir en este artículo, especialmente, con relación a lo que ha sido pensado también por otro filósofo moderno muy importante cuando se trata del tema lenguaje en general y que se ha tornado el punto de partida leibniziano por excelencia, nos referimos a John Locke y lo que ha discutido sobre todo en el libro III, “De las palabras”, de su Ensayo sobre el entendimiento humano.

We agree that Leibniz is one of the most important philosophers of language of the Modern Age, however, we believe that there is still much to be said about the relationship he established between certain etymological studies and history and even what we today consider philosophy of language and history. This is the main part of what we intend to discuss in our article above all in relation to what was thought by another modern philo-sopher and is also very important when we talk the subject language in general and which became the leibnizian starting point par excellence, we refer to John Locke and what he discussed especially in book III, Of words, of his Essay concerning Human Understanding.
