Anestesia y sus tipos. Desde su origen hasta la actualidad

    Este artículo busca reunir y explicar los diferentes tipos de anestesia y sus empleos actuales. Comenzaremos con una breve introducción a la historia de lo que actualmente conocemos como anestesia pero que es un concepto que lleva con nosotros desde el principio de las civilizaciones humanas salvo que el término de anestesia (palabra de origen griego) se acuñó años más tarde.

    Una vez hayamos dado un comienzo al tema, hemos organizado los conceptos en función del espacio de acción, desde el más pequeño hasta el cuerpo entero. Es por ello por lo que empezando con las descripciones nos encontramos con la anestesia local, el tipo de anestesia más simple y como son los diferentes anestésicos locales.

    Dichos anestésicos locales se pueden introducir en determinadas regiones del cuerpo y de este modo conseguir efectos regionales o más amplios, hasta llegar a lo llamamos anestesia general. La anestesia general consistiría en la privación completa y reversible de movimiento y de sensación dolorosa del paciente al que le aplique. Dichas aplicaciones han desarrollado dos vertientes como son la anestesia general total intravenosa, la cual solo emplea agentes anestésicos administrados mediante un acceso venoso y la anestesia general balanceada, la cual es un añadido de la anterior técnica al incluir a parte de agentes intravenosos, agentes inhalatorios y otro tipo de procedimientos anestésicos como la anestesia regional. Además, en este último apartado debido a su amplitud nos explayaremos en describir los diversos fármacos empleados para conseguir esa anestesia general, habiendo sido clasificados en sus diferentes objetivos: Hipnosis, analgesia y relajantes musculares.

    This article seeks to bring together and explain the different types of anesthesia and their current uses. We will begin with a brief introduction to the history of what we currently known as anesthesia, but it is a concept that has been with us since the beginning of human civilizations except that the term anesthesia (a word of Greek origin) was coined years later.

    Once we have started the topic, we have organized the concepts according to the space of action, from the smallest to the entire body. That is why starting with the descriptions we find local anesthesia, the simplest type of anesthesia and what the different local anesthetics are like.

    These local anesthetics can be introduced into certain regions of the body and in this way achieve regional or broader effects, until we call it general anesthesia. General anesthesia would consist of the complete and reversible deprivation of movement and painful sensation of the patient to whom it is applied. These applications have developed two aspects such as total intravenous general anesthesia, which only uses anesthetic agents administered through venous access, and balanced general anesthesia, which is an addition to the previous technique by including, apart from intravenous agents, inhalational agents. and other types of anesthetic procedures such as regional anesthesia. Furthermore, in this last section, due to its breadth, we will go into detail describing the various drugs used to achieve general anesthesia, having been classified according to their different objectives: Hypnosis, analgesia and muscle relaxants.
