Resumen de Moral y urbanidad en los libros de texto de las escuelas de primeras letras en Puebla. Siglo XIX

  Una de las preocupaciones del gobierno liberal y la Iglesia en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX y principios del XX fue la de crear a los nuevos ciudadanos, hombres y mujeres moralmente virtuosos, que México necesitaba para transformarse en una nación moderna y salir del atraso. Para ello, el propósito fue erradicar los vicios tradicionales del mexicano y cambiar conductas de comportamiento. La escuela fue el medio ideal para educar en valores morales y desarrollar patrones de conducta copiados de países extranjeros. En Puebla, fue la enseñanza de la moral cristiana y la urbanidad por medio de libros de texto la forma como se intentó cumplir con este objetivo nacional. Por medio de lecciones se buscó transformar en los niños costumbres tradicionales y rurales por patrones de conducta ajenos a la realidad social del país.

  One of the concerns of the Liberal government and the Church in the second half of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th was to create the new citizens, morally virtuous men and women, that Mexico needed to transform itself into a modern nation and get out of backwardness. For this, the purpose was to eradicate traditional Mexican vices and change behavioral conducts. The school was the ideal medium to internalize moral values and develop behavior patterns copied from foreign countries. In Puebla, it was the teaching of Christian morality and urbanity through textbooks, the way in which they tried to fulfill this national objective. Through lessons, it was sought to transform traditional and rural customs in children through patterns of behavior alien to the social reality of the country.
