    Se estudia un periodo de la historia urbana de Valdivia, que comienza con la reconstrucción y transformación realizada entre 1909 y 1915, después de un gran incendio en el centro histórico de la ciudad, que corrigió el trazado y el nivel, y pavimentó sus calles principales, estableció una red de alcantarillado y agua potable, y llevó a la construcción de edificios y un nuevo malecón fluvial. Después de 1915, lentamente se van concretando otros avances, hasta la aparición de un nuevo plan de transfor mación urbana, en 1931, que pretendió resolver los problemas pendientes, el que no fue implementado.Palabras clave: trazado urbano, Estado, municipalidad, agua potable, alcantarillado.

    This paper studies a period of urban history of Valdivia, becoming with the reconstruction and transformation realized from 1909 to 1915, after the conflagration that destroyed the historic downtown, when were modified urban planning and height of streets, just as it provoked pave it. Also, it established a sewage and drinking water system, buildings and new fluvial esplanade. Later, it gradually others changes occured, to a new urban project, in 1931, that pretended to resolve the problems are waiting for solutions, but it was not put an actionKeywords: urban planning, State, municipality, drinking water, sewage system.
