    La invocación ‘¡Sant Juan y ciégale!’ que aparece en el Lazarillo podría referirse a San Juan de Ortega, uno de cuyos milagros fue quitar la vista a un pescador que había envenenado el agua de un arroyo de donde bebía el santo. Uno de los candidatos a la autoría de la obra, fray Juan de Ortega, tomó el nombre de este santo medieval.

    The invocation ‘Saint John and blind him!’ that appears in the Lazarillo may refer to Saint John of Ortega, one of whose miracles was to remove the sight of a fisherman who had poisoned the water of a stream from which the saint drank. One of the candidates for the authorship of the work, Fray Juan de Ortega, took his name of this medieval saint.
