In this work we investigate the implementation of the triplicator diffraction grating with a liquid-crystal on silicon spatial light modulator (LCOS-SLM). A triplicator grating ideally generates three equi-intense diffraction orders. The design with optimal efficiency is a continuous phase grating. Therefore, we raise an alternative quantized phase grating due to the pixelation of the SLM. We analytically derive the quantized grating’s intensity in terms of the number of phase levels (!). Numerical simulations are then performed to obtain the phase values that yield maximum efficiency of the quantized triplicator. Correspondingly, those quantized triplicator gratings are experimentally verified by encoding them on the SLM. Finally, a random approach is adopted to eliminate the additional harmonic order.
